This archive exists because careful open-data work made the history of the World Cup reusable. Here is exactly what we used and what we changed.

1930–2022 tournament data

The transformed historical dataset used by cup.watch is shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license. The original database is provided as-is by its author.

Changes made for cup.watch

Selected the 22 men's tournaments from 1930 through 2022.
Selected and renamed fields used by the cup.watch static archive.
Joined goals, bookings, and shootout attempts to their matches.
Combined given and family names for display.
Converted numeric indicator fields to booleans.
Preserved source match dates and local stadium kickoff times without timezone conversion.

2026 tournament data

The 2026 archive is generated from the final cup.watch match snapshot, frozen on July 20, 2026 after the tournament ended. It is separate from the Fjelstul dataset.

Corrections

If you spot an error in the historical source, report it to the Fjelstul World Cup Database project. Errors introduced by our transformation or presentation should be reported to cup.watch.
